We've already seen the "specializations" for the classes in the 5e PHB. Each class has one traditional version of the class, as seen in earlier editions, and at least one other common version of the class. Yes, there's plenty of space for more specializations... undoubtedly in future books, and everyone has thought of one or two that would be good to add (for me, it's the scheming rogue, not a killer but a master of intrigue a la characters from "Game Of Thrones," and the scout ranger, a non-spellcasting woodsman who might possibly have a band of merry allies a la Robin Hood).
Some of these characters have specializations (acrobat? cavalier?). (image: crossroadgames.net)
Since Microlite 20 Fantasy was based on 3.5e and Pathfinder, it needs a little freshening up to catch up to 5e. So here's a few new classes based on the 5e specializations and what little we know about them now (I'll add more once the PHB is released):
- Barbarian Path of the Totem Warrior: Summoning the spirit of an animal, the totem warrior melds his fury with the abilities of a wild creature.
Class Type: Fighter
+2 Physical, +1 Subterfuge
Brute Force, Speed Boost, Wild Empathy, Wuxia Defenses
- Monk Way of the Four Elements: The martial arts master who "bends" the forces of nature to his will.
Class Type: Fighter
+3 Physical
Attack Bonus: Ranged/Missile, Lesser Spell List: Druid, Unarmed Damage, Wuxia Defenses
- Warlock Great Old One Pact: A magic-user with a force of personality strong enough to lead a cult of like-minded followers... who are out of their minds.
Class Type: Wizard
+2 Subterfuge, +1 Knowledge
Attack Bonus: Magic/Supernatural, Lesser Spell List: Arcane, Performance, Wild Magic
